the worker.

You've once thought that, you would do something different.

Or maybe you still will someday. You can't quite grasp that something different concretely. But just, something different.

You work in front of a computer, xyz hours a day. You don't stop. You are told to carry some continuous education. The society tells you. Your boss tells you. It's to increase your self worth for the job market, it is said.

So you are a commodity of a certain market. Just like the commodities you consume daily. That passion for knowledge that was once promoted by this funny thing called university - long gone. You try keeping it alive. Majority others don't, and if not handled with care, you let it slip.

You look at those concerns by scholars of all sorts, that universities have become pre-employment training ground. Once in a while they pop up in headlines. You smile at its pointlessness. You look back at your higher education, the so-called parcours professionel that was once repeated so many times. You look back at stories for the fight for internships. You laugh wryly once more.

You look further back. The starting point for popular education in 19th century was never to empower the youth, or to lead them to explore the unimagined, or to inspire and enlighten them. All those beautiful words. You know fully by heart that, it was a project to create law-abiding citizens and socially acceptable, answering the needs of Industrial Revolution.

And so you say, the fundamental nature of education has never really changed, in that sense. Job market is naturalized as an economic truth. An office is really a modernized version of a factory. The job has become a purpose.

But you also know, it is never the system that matters. So you tell yourself now. For you know, the system is no objective truth. The system does not inspire. It is just there so things function. Adapting to it is easy, but not being changed by it is hard. So you dance on. Ignore those who are full of shit, for there are so many of them. There are only those very few who truly sincerely give you that push you need.
